Another perfect summer’s day, another fun run in the sun. I had half thought about getting a longish run in today, but I’m glad I opted for the 5k fun run in Pontypridd’s Ynysangharad War Memorial Park.
There were loads of families enjoying the sunshine, and it was good to bump into some friends also giving up their Sunday morning for the sake of a run. The picture below shows me with Martin, disgracefully sporting a West Bromwich Albion shirt, and local running superstar Allen Bevan. As we regained our breath at the end, and speculated just how it was possible to run as fast as the winner did to record a winning time of 17 minutes, Allen said, “Well, we just run for fun, don’t we? Or do we? Why do we run, again?” Good question, but today at least, it didn’t feel like too much of a chore.
Well done to Pontypridd Town Council for organising a fun event, with all the money raised going to help Velindre Cancer Centre.
Today’s vital statistics
Run: 5k in 22m30s
Spotted: families having fun in the sun; young boys and girls demolishing the 2k fun run in proper quick time; lots of Ponty Roadents running shirts; Barney the purple dinosaur high fiving me over the finish line.
